Common Add-on Issues

Spot UV on Texured Cards

  • Spot UV will not appear 100% flat on a textured card, such as cotton, uncoated, and linen.
  • The gloss will highlight the uneven texture of the paper. If this is not the look you are going for, we suggest selecting a different cardstock.

Foil Edges on Rounded Corners

  • We cannot do foil edges on round corners.
  • Foil edges can only be done on straight edges.
  • If your card includes a die cut that goes over the edge of the card, we cannot do foil edges for those cards.

1 Side Spot UV vs. 2 Side Spot UV

  • When selecting Spot UV, you'll be able to select the spot uv needed per layer. For example, if you are ordering a 16pt card and needed Spot UV on the front and back, you would select
  • “Spot UV 2 sides", which is for when there is spot uv on both sides of the same layer (usually 16pt cards).
  • The example below is utilizing Spot UV on 2 separate layers: on the top layer, and the middle layer.

  • For something like this, the selection should look like this:

  • Notice that there are 2 separate selections for Spot UV for 1 side to account for each layer that the Spot UV is on.

Raised UV on White Background

  • Having Raised UV on a white background can lead to the UV having a yellow tint. This is due to the drying process of the UV.
  • Multiple layers of UV are used to build up the raised UV, and with white backgrounds, the yellow tint becomes more noticeable.
  • We suggest going with a color background if you are applying raised UV to your card and want to avoid this effect.

Foil on Suede Cardstock With White Background

  • With our Suede cardstock, we highly suggest using a color darker than white if adding any foil to your card.
  • This is due to the foil staining the suede finish over long periods of time.

Aligning Multiple Add-Ons

  • We are able to put multiple add-ons on one card, such as spot uv and a die cut.
  • If you are trying to align two add-ons, there is a decent chance that it will have registration issues. Please keep this in mind as we cannot guarantee 100% perfect alignment of overlapping add-ons.
  • For anything that requires tight registration, we highly suggest reaching out to us first before placing your order. Our team can let you know if what you are looking to do is possible or not.

Die Cut Sizing

  • While we can cut fairly small details, our die cuts do have a minimum sizing requirement. Please make sure your die cuts fit within the following sizing:
    • Standard Die Cut - The space between each cut must be 1.2 mm or larger, and the width of the cut itself must be at least 2mm.
    • Laser Die Cut - The space between each cut must be 1.2 mm or larger, and the width of the cut itself must be at least 0.6mm.
    • Premium Die Cut - The space between each cut must be 1.2 mm or larger, and the width of the cut itself must be at least 1mm.
  • When die cutting complex shapes, like letters, please keep in mind that any pieces not connected to the rest of the card will fall out in the cutting process. We recommend adding a connecting piece within letters like A, B, D, O, P, etc. In the sample below, you can see that there are no "floating" pieces because all of the pieces are connected in the same layer.
